#Job market showing signs of some improvement

Permanent staff appointments grew at their fastest rate in ten months during February, it has been reported.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), there was also a marked increase in the number of temporary positions last month, the largest in nearly four years.

The REC report did, however, raise concerns over the ability of the private sector to expand at such a rate that it can absorb the level of job losses expected in the public sector over the coming months as Government cuts begin to bite.

Kevin Green, the REC’s chief executive, said: “The UK now has a two-speed labour market. The private sector continues to hire in increasing numbers, while the public sector is shedding jobs.

“Nursing, medical and care sectors have significantly declined from a year ago. In comparison, the IT and computing sector saw accelerated growth over the same period.”
