Dual discrimination rules are postponed
The Government has put back the date for introducing regulations in the Equalities Act that would allow employees to bring claims on not one but two discrimination issues, such as age and sex.
The new regulations were due to come into effect in April 2011.
However, the Government’s Equalities Office has decided to defer the introduction of the new rules because it said that more time is needed to consider how best to make the regulations workable.
Most of the terms of the Equality Act came into force in October of last year.
The Government has yet to set a new implementation date but has promised to publish guidance on the rules at least three months before the legislation takes effect.
